We Oppose

Donald Trump

Donald Trump is a threat to all Americans and our democracy. AWF will fight against Trump until he is no longer President of the United States. The damage he has already done is immeasurable. Trump is a racist who routinely undermines our democracy and ignores the rule of law.

RESULT: Pending

Shauna O'Connell

In, Taunton, MA there will be a mayoral election this November featuring candidate Shauna O'Connell who is an energetic supporter of Donald Trump.

AWF has long opposed Trump and we are troubled by the thought that O'Connell may implement Trump-style politics on a relatively small town, such as Taunton, that clearly deserves more independent and less-partisan leadership.

If O'Connell intends to do for Taunton what Trump is doing to our country, Taunton is in for years of corruption, self-dealing, and an assault on democracy. Even if O'Connell were to say she would be different, she has already demonstrated poor judgement in her continued support of Trump.

O'Connell clearly lacks independence and leadership. Rather than speak out against Trump, she chooses to be a shameful unbending follower. Trump is bad for our country and O'Connell will be bad for Taunton.

RESULT: Loss - AWF will monitor her performance as mayor.

Mitch McConnell

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is among our nation's most reckless leaders, often obstructing progress, hurting working families and enabling Donald Trump's behavior and actions. McConnell needs to go and AWF opposes him until he does so.

Susan Collins

In Maine, U.S. Senator Collins has played middle of the road for too long. The final straw has been her failure to stand up to Donald Trump's administration and to support the Supreme Court candidacy of Brett Kavanaugh. Maine working families deserve leadership they can count on, not someone they cannot trust. Collins is up for re-election in 2020.

When Starbucks founder Howard Schultz was about to launch a vanity campaign for president, AWF was fast to call out his selfish candidacy and to warn that he would help re-elect Donald Trump by splitting the vote, just as Ralph Nader did in 2000.

AWF created and launched the grassroots #NoHowardNo campaign to discourage Schultz from running. AWF educated the media about Schultz's record, launched videos and trailed Schultz public appearances with mobile billboards to let him know we were not going to allow him to run for president without publicizing the truth about his record.

Schultz was surprised by the backlash to his possible candidacy. But we weren't because we helped to create it.

Thankfully, Schultz buckled and made the right choice not to run.

RESULT: Win - Schultz Withdrew

Tom Corbett

Pennsylvania Tom Corbett turned the clock backwards on progress during his first term. AWF opposed him and spent more than $1 million communicating his record to voters before they went to the polls. That year Corbett was the nation's only incumbent Republican governor to lose his reelection. AWF was pleased to help make that happen.

RESULT: Defeated (2014)

Tom Cotton

Senator Tom Cotton (AR) is routinely an obstructionist to progress who supports Donald Trump's reckless and hurtful leadership. In Arkansas, Cotton has done little to make life better for working families. His world views often center around the United States engaging in military strikes foremost and diplomacy as an afterthought.  Cotton is up for reelection in 2020.

RESULT: Pending

Stop Ralph Nader

Ralph Nader split the vote in 2000 and handed George Bush the election. When he tried to run again for president in 2004, AWF opposed his ego-driven effort with a series of ads demanding he withdraw.
